BABES IN ARMS

A Rodgers and Hart Musical in Concert at Royal Festival Hall – tickets on sale now.

Several well-known hits of the Great American Songbook first appeared in musical comedy Babes in Arms.

The show was written by one of the greatest musical theatre partnerships of all time, Richard Rodgers (The Sound of Music, The King and I, South Pacific) and Lorenz Hart (Blue Moon, Manhattan, Have You Met Miss Jones).

Its songs include My Funny Valentine, The Lady Is A Tramp, Where Or When and I Wish I Were In Love Again.

Performed here in its original 1937 version, the musical is set during the Great Depression in Long Island, USA.

It follows a group of teenagers who are forced to fend for themselves when their parents abandon them for a vaudeville tour. The sheriff wants to send them to a work camp, but they set out to prove their worth to the town by putting on their own show, though the project doesn’t quite go as planned…

Taking its talented characters on a journey of misunderstandings, reconciliations and romance, the show also deals with political and social issues that still resonate today.

This concert follows last year’s successful concert presentations of How To succeed In business without Really Trying and Of thee I sing!.
